**Role Summary:**

The Advanced Lead Engineer demonstrates leadership in communicating business goals / programs / processes for an area or business segment. Has the experience or expertise to solve problems. Ability to develop and execute objectives for self and others. This role has the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

**Essential Responsibilities:**

The Advanced Lead Mechanical Engineer reports to the Mechanical Engineering (ME) Manager and leads assigned analytical, design, and test objectives vis--vis: life cycle requirements capture, design to cost, schedule commitment and ME designs, analyses, and tests that meet product performance for use in product development including rapid prototyping and manufacturing. The Advanced Lead Mechanical Engineer demonstrates leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for the GE Aviation Power Conversion and Control business segment. In this role you will utilize your experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and lead others, and have the ability to effect short-term and long-term business goals.

Through work assignments, you will:

+ Apply advance engineering concepts and technical requirements such as thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid-mechanics, vibration, shock, and physical properties data into functional product definition designs, analyses, and tests for packaging high power conversion electronics systems, controls and other electronics systems

+ Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements

+ Mentor technicians and designers/engineers in design methods and layouts

+ Sit on Configuration Management review boards and approve engineering changes to designs

+ Lead engineers in proposal development efforts, prototype designs, and design-to-cost solutions for complex electro-mechanical systems and components

+ Create definitions of parts, modules, and assemblies in the form of 2D cross sections, 3D models, tolerance stack-ups, and various electronic data formats to support analysis, manufacturing, assembly, tooling, and inspection

+ Lead designers in the creation of CAD models using SolidEdge and NX, check, validate, and issue models and associated drawings

+ Derive electronic data models and use engineering analysis tools as needed using finite element and finite difference methods (ANSYS, CFDesign, and KCR Thermal)

+ Monitor the work of technicians, use gages in driving quality inspections, and use instrumentation for testing

+ Determine dimensional constraints and geometric tolerances required for proper clearances and fits while maximizing manufacturing capabilities

+ Support global outsourcing initiatives by preparing and sending work packages to low cost suppliers, including defining the work scope, estimating hours and due dates, monitoring progress, and serving as a technical resource through periodic communication with suppliers

+ Work within the guidelines of applicable GE Policies & Procedures, Engineering Standards, Product Definition Operating Procedures, Specifications, Government and Commercial Standards, and special security requirements

+ Evaluate and influence new and revised Processes, Engineering Standards and Product Definition Operating Procedures

+ Ensure all interface characteristics between components are established and agreed upon by Designers and Engineers of mating parts

+ Concurrently, manage multiple projects monitoring progress and quality and ensure schedule, cost and performance requirements are met

+ Work as one team with Pompano Beach and Long Island engineering teams and anticipate 10% travel time to vendors and other GE sites

+ Master of Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or college with a concentration in Thermodynamics or Thermal-Fluids

+ Minimum of Three years of leadership experience in the development of electronic product packaging, conceptual design, proposals, analysis, and testing of high power electronics conversion and electronics control products **ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS :**

+ PLEASE NOTE : Work location listed is Pompano Beach, FL. However, this position may be available at our Bohemia, NY location. (There will be a geographic differential included for the Bohemia, NY location)

+ This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment **Desired Characteristics:**

+ Three plus years of demonstrated leadership experience in the development of electronic product packaging, conceptual design, proposals, analysis, and testing of high power electronics conversion and electronics control products

+ Demonstrated proficiency in thermal-fluid sciences, structural mechanics, and electronic packaging on a minimum of 3 electronic development programs

+ Basic understanding of electronics

+ Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to present technical results from analyses, design, and test to customers and senior leadership
